Taking the lead in safety operations

A common cause of accidents is caused by negligence around the power supply. Damage to the mains cable, or cutting the power cord whilst working, is a common occurrence. It is important not to handel the cable but immediately pull out the mains plug. Do not continue to use a power tool with a damaged electrical cable.

The best way to avoid injuries is to know the tool you use and how to use them correctly

  • Always use your power tool, accessories and tool bits as stated in the operationg instructions, and be aware of the working conditions and work to be performed. Incorrect use of a tool for work other than that it was designed to perform could result in a hazardous incident.
  • Stay alert, always concentrate on what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool when you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. Remember, a moment's inattention could lead to serious personal injury.

  • When handling a power tool never carry it by its power cord. Always remove any adjusting wrench or key before turning it on as left attached to a rotating part can result in injury.
  • Always ensure the switch is in the 'off' position before connecting any power source or battery pack, or when picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or energizing power tools that have the switch on invite accidents.
  • Always wait for the machine to come to a complete stop before placing it down. A tool insert can jam and lead to loss of control over the tool.
  • Always disconnect a power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories or storing your power tools. This preventative measure will reduce the risk of a power tool starting accidently.

Workplace Safety

  • A clean working environment is a healthy workpalce, so ensure you keep work areas clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
  • Ensure good ventilation and do not operate power tools in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or fine dust. Power tools can create sparks which could easily ignite dust or fumes.
  • Keep an adequate distance between workers while working with power tools. Ensure you have proper footing and balance at all times to allow for full control of your power tool.
  • Ensure you have proper lighting, especially when you are operating in dark environments such as basements.
